The British Museum

A brass medal which commemorates John Wilkes's election as an MP for Middlesex in 1768. The obverse is inscribed 'IOHANNES WILKES' and features a bust of the politician; the reverse depicts Cupid holding a quill and a staff with cap of liberty, with the accompanying inscriptions: 'GENIUS OF LIBERTY' and 'ELECTED KNIGHT OF THE SHIRE FOR MIDDLESEX MDCCLXVIII'.
