Part of a handwritten letter dated 9 February 1826, from Hon. Henry Thomas Liddell at Gateshead to one of his agents, the solicitor William Dickson at Alnwick, concerning Liddell's campaign for the contested Northumberland by-election of 1826. As well as references to accommodation for Liddell's wife, and his two eldest children and their governess, the letter includes Liddell's reference to his chosen campaign colour, crimson ('my color is crimson'), an attached sample of crimson silk, and a request for 'some orders' to be given, apparently for materials of this kind for his campaign.
