Bronze medallion commemorating the return of Sir Charles Cockerell, Bt. as an MP for Evesham, on petition, in February 1819. The petition unseated William Edward Rouse Boughton, who had been returned in 1818. The medal was presented by Cockerell to his supporters. The obverse depicts the Evesham Abbey arch, and Abbot's bell tower, with the Borough arms and charter lying in the foreground, and has the inscription: 'THE RIGHT OF ELECTION IS IN THE MAYOR, ALDERMEN, CAPITAL AND OTHER BURGESSES, MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION. SUFFIELD FECIT'. The reverse side is inscribed: 'PARVA CONCORDIA CRESCUNT. THIS MEDAL IS PRESENTED BY SIR CHARLES COCKERELL, BARONET, TO THE BURGESSES OF EVESHAM, MEMBERS OF THE CORPORATION, IN COMMEMORATION OF THE TRIUMPH OF JUSTICE AND INDEPENDENCE OBTAINED BY HIS EXERTIONS, IN SUPPORT OF THEIR PETITION BEFORE THE HONORABLE THE HOUSE OF COMMONS, ON THE 23.D OF FEBRUARY 1819'.
