Mock Handbill

Guildhall Library

A satirical attack on Frederick Bull's campaign for the contested London by-election of 1773 (and an attack on John Wilkes, presented as 'perpetual Dictator to the Livery of London', with whom Bull was closely associated). The mock handbill ironically lists 'reasons' why London electors should vote for Bull: for example, 'Because, He is Conscious of his Inability, and modestly declares himself inadequate to that Important Station, for which he nevertheless solicits your Vote', and it presents Bull as Wilkes's 'Tool'. Bull was returned.
