Jim Mageean (Voice); recorded at Vic Gammon's studio in Hexham, Northumberland

New recording in which Jim Mageean recreates an outspoken ballad produced by the contested Newcastle election of 1774. Set to the immensely popular 'Derry Down', the ballad offers a partisan take on the events of the election. It strongly attacks the conduct of Sir Walter Calverley Blackett and Sir Matthew White Ridley before and during the contest (in matters of local and national concern) and condemns their supporters, while it celebrates their opponents, Phipps and Delaval, and their supporters.
