Bludgeon

The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum

Bludgeon thought to have been used by George Eld (1745-1827) in rioting associated with the Coventry election of 1780. Eld, of Cross-Cheaping Ward, voted for Edward Roe Yeo and John Baker Holroyd, the anti-corporation candidates and supporters of Lord North's Administration, who were returned on petition in 1781.
